I decided it was time for another vacation and on June 26 I rented a car together with Andre, my collegue from Germany, and drove to LA. It is a good 2.5 hour drive. After checking in to our hotel, we continued to Universal Studios, A theme park based on the themes from movies produced by Universal Studios. In this picture you see Andre standing in front of the entrance of the park
One of the attractions is: "Back to the future, the ride", and you can recognize the Time Machine from the movie. The park is not very big, small enough to cover in one day if it is not too crowded (which is probably a good thing). A very nice thing is the recognizability of the themes of the rides.

On the second day we payed a visit to the competitors, Warner Brothers Studios. This is not a theme park but instead we got a real studio tour Here you can see an outdoor movie set.
This is the set of the TV series E.R.
Some of the most famous sights in L.A., The Hollywood Sign...
... and the stars on the walk of fame
On the fourth day we went to the Getty Center, a museum for art (mostly european art of the 19th century and earlier). The building itself is a work of art too.

a view over the city. This picture was taken from a vista on mulholland drive.
between the cardboard houses of the movie set you can see the WB's watertower.
Unlike the UCSB, the UCLA actually has some nice buildings such as this one. This is royce hall and during the meeting it was the place for all the plenary seminars. Nobel Laureate and founder of the worm community Sidney Brenner gave a seminar here too.
This is "the irises" by van Gogh and probably the most famous painting in the museum.
